When you are in a DG environment, you need to decide what to do with your archivelog and define a retention policy for them.
You can do it using the "CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY" option of RMAN. You can define it to either:
- BACKED UP integer TIMES TO DEVICE TYPE deviceSpecifier;
- TO APPLIED ON [ALL] STANDBY;
- TO SHIPPED TO [ALL] STANDBY;
- TO NONE; (default)
The second and third one are DG related. You can set up Oracle to automatically mark it for deletion upon standby application or shiping.
Remember that they are not deleted immediately, they are eligible for deletion.
